Kinja'd!!!

Sent a customer a quote two weeks ago after a lengthy, involved meeting. At the end of the quote is a huge massive item line that calls for 2-3 weeks lead time for service after a signature and initial payment. Customer replies, a week and a half later (today). She agreed to the quote (but then tried to add more things in it — sorry, you’re getting a revised price, and you’ll have to sign on that now), and said it would be great if we could be out there by Friday, which effectively two business days from now (past 5pm here now).

I had a wary feeling about this one when I met her, and now I’m predicting all kinds of good fun when I email back tomorrow.

Lol, you expect customers to read the quote and agreement?

I’m in the fun position of having to draw and detail things for quotes that I have absolutely no control over, so things get added to quotes all the time without me being told, and the next thing I know I have to come up with it right meow and it has lead time.

It's okay, we all make mistakes.

Everything has to be “right meow!” You are at the mercy of the customer’s response time. They are largely not aware (or concerned) that any small edits to the agreed-upon design/product requires a whole new writeup for approval and price adjustment.

Oh, updates please! This person has serious comprehension problems. They are almost always a joy.

I don’t know why you care. It’s not like your time and effort is worth anything.

You know how many times I’ve been burned by a contractor not reading fully what was quoted to him? It’s unreal how contractors literally focus on the price and not the details to double check to make sure they are supposed to be getting what they requested.

I find it funny only because it’s not me. I’ve been there. She sounds like a massive crazy lady. Abort! Abort!

I’ll find a decent contractor sometime before I die (I am not a contractor)

If I recall correctly you are involved one way or another in home construction. I feel your pain.

Homeowners are the WORST to deal with (for the most part). Not concept of lead times.

This makes things especially hard to sell to them when you’re offering a better product than a competitor. The contractor never notices. All they see is a higher price at the bottom. (Weirdly, if they’re the type to come back and tell you that you’re high before automatically going to the competition, they can usually get their head around that fact when you explain it)
